What is Sickle Cell?
- Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a group of inherited blood disorders that affect the red blood cells. In people with SCD, the red blood cells, which are normally round and flexible, become rigid and shaped like a crescent or sickle.
- These sickle-shaped cells can block blood flow and break down more quickly than normal red blood cells, leading to various health problems.
